Art critique
The Mona Lisa is a half-length portrait painting by Leonardo da Vinci. This painting has been described as “the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about, the most parodied work of art in the world. The Mona Lisa is also one of the most valuable paintings in the world. The year was c. 1503-06, perhaps continuing until c. 1517. The medium is oil on poplar panel. The subject is Lisa Gherardini. The dimensions are 77cm x 53 cm (30 in x 21 in). The location of the painting is in Musee du Louvre, Paris.
The artwork does not have much color. There are only neutral colors used in the art, giving the painting a neutral vibe. The lack of color doesn’t give the painting much characteristic. There’s no pop of color to give the painting a happy, cheery mood. There’s a repetition of green in the back. In the front, there’s a repetition of brownish reddish in the front. It is a very complex paining due to all the many different shapes and tints color.
I think that the message the artist is trying to convey is that not all beautiful things need a lot of color. While this woman is not painted with much color, that doesn’t take the beauty away from her. I also think that the bland dark color gives off a mysterious vibe.
I think the Mona Lisa is a beautiful work of art. Both the facial structure and background of the painting are realistic. The color of her dress, and the background sync in harmony. The color gives the painting an old time look and feel. Leonardo used many art techniques to make his art seem as if her eyes are moving. I am not moved by this painting because although its very famous for how it looks, I don’t like how there’s not much color.
